Dorothy D. Buchwalter is a storyteller whose life journey is as rich and varied as the enchanted forest she brings to life in her debut book, A GLIMPSE OF FAIRY LIFE: IN THE ENCHANTED FOREST. Born and raised in Texas, Dorothy attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas before furthering her education at Draughon’s Business College. Her determination led her to the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, completing her final year at M.D. Anderson in Houston. For over a decade, she worked in the medical field, blending her analytical skills with a deep sense of care—a theme that would later resonate in her writing.
In 1965, Dorothy married Houston Lewis, and together they raised two sons, David and Alex. Her dedication to family shone through her role as a Cub Scout Den Leader, where she guided young minds, including her son David, who achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. After remarrying in 1982 to Larry Buchwalter, Dorothy balanced homemaking with a passion for investing before returning to the workforce as a Supply Chain Manager at OxyChem in Dallas.
Life took a challenging turn in 2001 when Dorothy faced the loss of her job, her mother, and her father’s declining health, all within a short span. Yet, her resilience carried her through as she cared for her father until his passing in 2008. Alongside Larry, she found joy in travelling, particularly cruising and exploring Europe’s rivers.
The arrival of her grandchildren, Kendall in 2020 and Everett in 2021, rekindled her creative spirit, inspiring her to write A GLIMPSE OF FAIRY LIFE. This heartwarming tale reflects her nurturing nature and love for the magical connections between all living things. Through her book, Dorothy invites readers to share in the wonder she’s cultivated over a lifetime of love, family, and adventure.
